ABOUT DANNY

My piping career started a mere 12 years ago. I have always enjoyed the sound of the pipes but it wasn't until September of 1990 that my interest had peaked while I was on a visit to one of North America's Premier Highland Games at Estes Park Colorado. Fortunately for me, it was local and I didn't have to drive very far. While attending the games, I saw a band called the Black Watch, The Royal Highland Regiment of Canada and it was then I was sure I would pursue this sometimes difficult hobby of bagpiping.

My first 3 years were a struggle. I was trying to balance my hobby and family life and I even gave up my piping hobby twice out of frustration. However, I kept finding myself returning to that same old practice chanter and forcing myself to learn to read music. And any of you that have been in music or have played an instrument, you know how frustrating learning the value of a note can be. Eventually, a light would click and this learning process was slowly starting to sink in.
As the years passed, I realized how sticking with it has paid off for me. Over the years, I have played some happy gigs and some not so happy gigs but I have truly enjoyed my piping along the way. I have even competed in solo competition and did well taking a 1st and 2nd place medal in Grade 4. Even doing well, I realized that piping in competition was not my niche and that I would rather use the bagpipe to perform. This setting is where I most enjoy it.
